2011 1sts, Championships, and Specialty Awards
Yes, it’s the shameless pat-ourselves-on-the-back-for-walking-in-circles post here at CCNF Chronicles. For years a similar edition of the hard copy newsletter would hit the mail around the 15th of January filled with show results and glossy photos. Well, kind of the same idea here except that I’m two weeks late, the photos aren’t glossy (pixely?), and you can’t use the post to start your next fire in the wood stove. Nobody’s perfect, we change with the times…I suppose you could print it out and then use it in the fire place?
All in all 2011 was a very strong year for us on the show circuit both in the halter ring and at several fleece shows including the Nationals in Colorado. While some of our tried and true genetics that we were already known for were of course at play (Ring of Fire kids Charming, La Vie en Rose, Gabanna, Consolation and Wayfarer, as well as Cameron progeny Tanzania and Magellan), 2011 also marked the first major appearance of the newly minted Precocious kids (Tenacious, Invictus, Conceptious, Flirtatious, Bellagio, and Lisbeth). Though Archangel’s offspring were seemingly conspicuous in there absence — the one exception being Avenger — Lisbeth is his granddaughter so The Arch was in fact present nonetheless. More to come from him in 2012 in any case. Even the grand patriarch, Legacy Gold, was still represented here last year with his amazing son, Sambac, showing that his sire’s genetics are still very much relevant just in case there was any doubt.
Perhaps of biggest significance for us last year was the addition in the fall of our son, Sam, as a member the show crew. Though our kids have literally grown up surrounded by alpacas their entire lives, we had never wanted to arbitrarily force them into participating in this aspect of the business. Yet when Sammy announced last summer that he wanted to go into the show ring for the first time by himself, we had no idea how much fun it would be having him and Max on the road with us again after several years of leaving them home so that they wouldn’t miss their respective soccer/baseball/lacrosse games. They both had a blast as well and are already planning on coming with us this coming April when the fun begins anew.
