A Day of Thanks…

The extended Lutz clan is gathering at the farm today (and for the entire Thanksgiving weekend) from Cambridge and NYC. Best of all is the chance for the four cousins (ages 9 to almost 13), who truly adore one another, to hang together for several days without the pressures of their normal daily schedules. For our ballerina niece, Lilah, in particular it will provide a short respite from her grueling schedule getting ready for the holiday run of the Nutcracker. For the adults there will of course be much banter, story-telling, and debating the state of the world. For my part I may even finally beat my sis at backgammon. It’s gotta happen sooner or later, right? I can dream anyway.

For those of you that might be reading this from outside the USA, American Thanksgiving has more or less become a holiday gathering of family and friends that in addition to providing the obvious opportunity to reverently consider all that has passed the year before is also an excellent opportunity to (in no particular order) overeat, watch and/or play american football, drink copious amounts of beer and other libations, tell inappropriate and not particularly reverent jokes, go for long walks together, chop wood, shoot pool (billiards), watch some movies, and in the case of this group perhaps even fire a potato gun or two.  It’s all good! Hope everyone has a good day wherever you might be. Now about that turkey…
