A weather event at the North American Alpaca Show? Why I never…

It just feels like the good old days again, very fitting for the North American’s 10th anniversary actually!  For years the check-in day of the NAAS was infamously plagued by bad weather of one sort or another. There was nothing quite like doing health and color checks on 1200+ drowned rats. It always put exhibitors in good cheer right from the get-go too!

Then for the last few years Mother Nature behaved herself and in so doing created a false sense of security in the ranks. How quickly we all seemed to forget how she could be. Well…perhaps she was just building up a credit for us? The forecast for this coming Friday, which is our scheduled check-in day, is calling for anything from torrential downpours, to 12+ inches of snow in the Springfield area depending upon which forecast you believe. In any case we, the dipsticks crazy enough to run that three-ring circus for the past decade, are taking this seriously enough that we are inviting our exhibitors to even come in late on Thursday from 4 to 7 PM if they can get away from home earlier. As someone that once drove through an ice storm all the way from Vermont to Ohio/Michigan (with 24′ trailer), the chance to skip such an adventure is one I would jump at. Fingers are crossed in any case that all of our exhibitors and their alpacas arrive safely in Springfield without incident. If you’re coming to the show, we’ll see you there!
