An Appreciation of an Old Friend, SuperNova May 8, 2001 – July 26, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our talismanic Champion Herdsire, SuperNova, a beloved member of the extended family here at CCNF. The cause of death was complications from intestinal cancer.

Little did we know when we purchased a beautiful (and barely pregnant) Sunbeam Alpine from our friends Al and Dawn Fox at the 2000 National Show what was in store for all of us. Born here a year later in the spring of 2001, SuperNova was the first homegrown CCNF male in our program’s history and also had the distinction of being Cas-Cad-Nac’s sole animal contribution to the North American Alpaca Stud when we co owned that group of Herdsires with Snowmass Alpacas.

SuperNova first made his mark in the show ring at the 2002 North American Alpaca Show as a yearling and later that same season at AOBA Nationals where he was that year’s Reserve Champion White Male. His made his final appearances on the show circuit in person in the spring of 2003. His work though had just begun – in the following years SuperNova’s sons and daughters would go on to prove the inherent quality of their sire by winning major championships at many Level V shows, though there did seem to be a particular affinity for the rings of the NAAS. His sons CCNF Boss-A-Nova and Orion Nebula won the White Male Championships in 2005 and 2006 respectively and daughter TGF Morning Bells was both the 2009 Light Female Champion as well as the Judges’ Choice Female Huacaya. His son Talon was also, amongst his other winnings, the 2008 AOBA Composite Champion prior to being exported to the UK where he now stands at stud. SuperNova was also the winner of the Get-of-Sire Class at the both the 2006 NAAS and most recently at the 2009 Mapaca Jubilee.

The most natural show animal we’ve ever had and a pure joy to work with here on the farm, we feel Novy’s absence acutely. There was only one. SuperNova is survived here at CCNF by his daughters Bellarina, Serenity, Bellanova, Celestial Nova, Andromeda, and Capella; his sons Shockwave and Amoror and his grandsons Vertigo and King of the Ladies. Rest in peace my friend and thank you for sharing your time here with us.

  1. Each alpaca has a unique and very individual personality that etches a place in the heart. So very sorry for your loss.

  2. We are so sorry about SuperNova. Our alpacas are so much a part of our family.
When something happens to them, it is more than heartbreaking.

  3. It never gets any easier to loose an animal. I know we are supposed to consider these amazing animals livestock, but when you raise one from birth they are family and truly touch your heart. Your friends at Twillingate Farm Alpacas are truly sorry for you loss. His legacy will live on!

  4. In the tragedy of your loss came the birth to us of a beautiful female 7/31/10 whose sire is Orion’s Nebula….just one more sign of the legacy that continues from this outstanding male. She is named Orion’s Pearl. Once again his legacy lives on with her birth so we thank you for his good care.

  5. Here’s wishing you many fond memories to lighten your heart. As you once quoted to us when consoling us through a tragic loss of one our precious friends, it is always the good ones that seem to leave us too soon.

  6. Deepest Sympathy in the loss of SuperNova. I vividly recall saying good-bye to Vengador when his time came. It’s never easy no matter what the circumstances. It sounds so trite, but is so true….you have many outstanding offspring to carry on his legacy. May he rest in peace.

    1. Our inspiration too…it’s worth remembering that at the time he came around fleeces like that were extremely rare. His grandson (King of the Ladies) has some very, very big shoes to fill.

  7. Sorry to hear about your loss of such a beautiful animal. We are proud to say that we are the proud owners of a couple of Alpacas from your farm and look forward to more of them.
