Baby BOOM

The alpacas here at CCNF could care less that their herd manager has been off for the past week making wedding vows, changing her name, and  doing all that gooey cuddly stuff that newlyweds do like staring into each other’s eyes just because they can (hey, been there, done that: it’s pretty great actually…but I digress): there are babies to be born, dammit. For the past week we’ve averaged a new cria born just about every day or so, which is a nice sustainable pace when you have 30 +/- of the little buggers still to come. As it turns out, we’re finding ourselves in the heart of the batting order so to speak with some big names in our foundation herd birthing out all in fairly quick succession: first Eliza had a really nice little white Precocious boy (show champion CCNF Lisbeth’s full brother), then Magdalena had a dark fawn Matrix Majesty boy, Sugar Snow and her adult daughter, Sugar Drop, each had little girls (1 EL, 1 Preco), and then Marigot (who is white) surprised us a bit by having a brown female out of MM herself. To top it all off, yesterday after Jen — with a small assist from Cefi and yours truly working mom’s legs on the el rollo — fixed a uterine torsion on CCNF super-dam Andean Silk (she’s the mom of Damask, Tanzania, and current show girl Siken Fire, as well as the actual CCNF twins, Satin and Lace), we were rewarded a few hours later with a beautiful medium brown female from her as well.

The first thing Kim will notice when she comes back on duty tomorrow will be how much emptier what was the July on-deck pen now is. Only Infinity and one Ms. Ascension (that would be Elixir’s momma) remain of that group that are still due. Of course Kimmy really needn’t worry that she missed out, there’s another group of 12+ females right next door who are all due this month: May through October, the fun never ends after all!
