Cas-Cad-Nac Farm’s Consignments at the 2010 National Elite Alpaca Auction: Lot #54 CCNF Sovereign Knight
The story of this spectacular young Herdsire has its origins in our original partnership with Don & Julie Skinner on the North American Alpaca Stud. You see part of that deal in the summer of 2002 was the acquisition of 70 +/- females, many of them older imports that Julie had selected herself in Peru. Within that new (to us) female herd, there was a core of animals that was genetically on par with any group of alpaca females in the world. Not least among these was a little old lady, already blind in one eye, named PPeruvian Jesusa. At the time we consummated the deal with Snowmass, Jesusa had yet to have her cria (she was bred to Legacy Gold whom we already co-owned with the Skinners at the time) and as such stayed out in Idaho to birth out. So it was that some months later she hopped off the trailer here in Vermont with a gorgeous little male cria at side that we had already named Golden Sovereign, sight unseen. In the years that have followed since Sovereign (whom we now co own with Maple View Alpacas) and his full sibling, Magdalena, have proven a formidable genetic duo and it’s a rare CCNF show string that doesn’t contain at least one if not several of their children (or coming in 2011 grandchildren). Needless to say that Sovereign Knight carries with him a lot of our breeding program’s history (and to a great degree Snowmass’s too). From Jesusa to Legacy, to Legacy Gold, to Don Julio he is an amalgam of some very powerful alpaca genetics. Though we rarely let any member of his paternal line go, there are only so many females we could breed him with here in our program (Archangel and his progeny are LG descendants too after all) so it is with great pride that we offer a member of this most legendary family here at the 2010 National Elite!
This young male comes by his quality very honestly, having deep roots in the history of our breeding program on both sides of his family tree. His dam, Fawn Angel in unquestionably one of our most stalwart foundation females having produced not just the young Herdsire in question but also his stalwart brothers CCNF Halo Star, and CCNF Guardian (a working Herdsire here at CCNF), as well as their sisters, Heavenly Angel and Dark Angel. Paternally, Sovereign Knight carries with him not just the amazing genetic mojo of Snowmass Legacy Gold but perhaps—with no disrespect intended to LG whatsoever—more importantly the blood of his legendary paternal granddam, PPeruvian Jesusa, arguably the most important imported female in our farm’s history. With the stature and presence that is obvious at a glance and fleece genetics that are undeniable, CCNF Sovereign Knight is a true scion of that genealogical royal family.
