Cas-Cad-Nac Farm’s Consignments at the 2010 National Elite Alpaca Auction: Lot #36 CCNF Cacao

So the last time we sold a male of this quality and color profile was at the National Elite in 2008 when CCNF Silver Vector went on the block. The reality is that we don’t have enough unrelated and dark colored females to make proper use of a Herdsire like Cacao within our breeding program. As his catalog description below points out, almost 14 years into this wild ride of ours we would never define ourselves by our grey or dark colored alpacas, which without going and making an actual count, can’t number much more than 30 (and that’s counting older retired girls and nursing crias) out of our entire herd of 230+. Like Vector before him though, our loss will be someone else’s gain…

We can hear the chorus from here: “but Cas-Cad-Nac doesn’t do grey/black!” We would openly admit that 9 out of 10 times the chorus would have a point but…kindly suspend your disbelief for a while! CCNF Cacao comes by his grey leaning fleece genetics very honestly. His dam, CCNF Sweet Temptation, is the daughter of our ultra-fine maroon/brown Herdsire, 5Peruvian Red Hot, a founding member of the North American Alpaca Stud and a male who year in and year out continues to have the fiber stats to back that statement up. Combined with the genetics of Snowmass Andean Bronze, our brown Herdsire with a proven track record of throwing grey progeny, the result is a young statuesque male possessing both the fleece qualities and phenotype that any serious breeder of grey alpacas would want to add to their program.
