CCNF Andean Majesty, Lot #33 at the Breeders Edge
We’re putting animals into an alpaca auction in Virginia…in the month of August. Hmm, why the sense of deja vu? đ
As those of you that have followed our ups and downs over the years may recall, we were fortunate for several years (2008 to 2010)Â to be part of a very special event, the National Elite Alpaca Auction, which was held in Leesburg, VA. While it was a great time and we, along with our auction partners Jim Webb and Sharon Brown at Virginia Alpaca Farm & Breeding Co., definitely had fun putting the thing on, I know that we all likewise feel some relief nowadays to no longer have it dominating our summer calendars.
After taking a break from the auction scene for the better part of two years, we returned for the first time this past January to the sale stage at the Priority auction in Las Vegas with a trio of females. It went really well and frankly being at a sale where we were just consignors and not also the organizers/hosts was, well…it recalled much of the fun we had experienced when we used to help run the NEAA with virtually none of the stress! Go figure?
On the heels of that success earlier in the year, we are thrilled to be participating in this year’s edition of the Breeders Edge auction and are particularly looking forward to being back at a sale in northern Virginia again! The fact that the good folks at Double “O” Good Alpacas — and not CCNF/VAF — get to sweat the details about things like staging, porta-potties, air conditioning (lest we forget it is VA in August), and catering is just adding to our own personal cheer that much more. Kind of like a nice little trip down memory lane, but one where you get to expunge any of the hard parts!
We have consigned two beautiful females to the sale, each representing a different aspect of our farm’s breeding program. Today, I’m talking about our colored entry. After a very successful spring show season for the offspring of our Herdsire, Snowmass Matrix Majesty, during which he won not only the Get of Sire class at the Futurity — without question the toughest alpaca show in the country — but also the coveted 2013 Futurity Herdsire of the Year award for dark offspring, it seemed only appropriate that we offer one of his young daughters at the Breeders Edge!
CCNF Andean Majesty is in fact descended from alpaca royalty on both sides of her family tree though. While the Matrix/Quechua line is well known to most, less known is her paternal grandam, Snowmass Simply Scrumptious, whose pedigree includes such powerhouse imported names as Augusto and Chaccu.
Maternally, Andean Majesty is the granddaughter of the super potent imports 4P Andean Gold (the sire of Snowmass Andean Bronze), PPP Croixen, and the one and only 4P Legacy. Those alpacas and more combined to make Andean Majesty’s amazing Champion dam, CCNF Andean Silk, a female who in addition to the young lady of the hour, has also given us amongst others our working Herdsire, CCNF Silken Damask, and his rockstar full sister, CCNF Tanzania, who ended her show career last year as the Black Futurity Champion! So: the genetics are all there but what about the alpaca, Ian?
Well, when we originally brought Snowmass Matrix Majesty into our breeding program some 2+ years ago, it was done expressly with the idea that he would give us a dark colored Herdsire (he rides the line between dark fawn and light brown) we could plug into the mix here with broad brush-strokes (read: he was unrelated to the majority of our herd) but without having to compromise on fleece fineness, density, or uniformity. CCNF Andean Majesty and her paternal siblings that have been born here since last year, are a living testament that her sire has delivered on that promise completely. Andean Majesty’s fleece possesses all of those qualities, traits which are highly valued in any alpaca. Lest we lose sight of the fact that what we are trying to produce here are alpacas that grow consistent, high quality textile-grade fiber. And while it really should almost be a given in 2013 that alpacas consigned to auction have correct conformation, I feel compelled to tag up nonetheless and mention it just the same: her frame, proportions, and bite are all correct too!
While we obviously hope to have a successful sale and make some money at the Breeders Edge (duh), we also view sales such as the BE as a really great a marketing opportunity in and of themselves: a chance to meet other alpaca breeders — both established and brand new — and talk a about what our breeding program and our animals are all about, and what it is that we stand for as a farm. Though it also needs to be said that after 16 years of breeding alpacas and in a challenging economic environment, there is simply no point in spending the time or money necessary to even enter an animal in a sale like the Breeders Edge unless that animal is something special. All of which is a rather long-winded way of saying that Andean Majesty is pretty snazzy or she wouldn’t be there in the first place!
Like all maiden females we sell here, Andean Majesty will come with her first future breeding included, a full reproductive guarantee, as well as a live birth guarantee once she is in fact bred. When she is of age, her new owners will be able to send her back to us and breed her to any Herdsire owned by CCNF, a group that is frankly too long and deep to run down here, though you can peruse for yourself by clicking here. The list of tasty genetic options are many and by the spring of 2014 will potentially even include some of our young up and coming rockstar males that aren’t even working yet at this time but that will be turning 2 years old by then.
We hope that if you are in the market for a high quality colored female that you will give CCNF Andean Majesty a long look. In the event that you are unable to attend the Breeders Edge but would like to bid by phone, that can of course be arranged. Jennifer and I are also more than happy to answer any questions that prospective bidders might have in the run-up to the sale so feel free to reach us by email (alpacas@cas-cad-nacfarm.com) or phone (802-263-5740) with any inquiries. We hope to see you at the Breeders Edge auction, August 23rd to the 25th!
