Fine tuning the show rosters

So we went through all of the prospective show animals over the weekend and it looks like the upcoming season is going to be a busy one. Which from my perspective is just as well. After years of conditioning ourselves to a certain level of chaos, if we are at a show and not running around like crazed maniacs shuttling animals to and from the various rings, I find the whole experience about as stimulative as watching the paint dry. Maybe I need the little rush of my wife telling to get my ass moving or so and so is going to miss his or her class? It seems that vibe shall not go missing this April though. On top of the 10 or so yearling holdovers from last fall there are approximately 20 juveniles that will also be joining the fray for the first time.

Adding to the upcoming drama of taking a herd of 30 alpacas on the road there is also the small matter that we have only 23 days until we load for the North American and only one of those 20 juvis has thus far ever seen a halter, to say nothing of the round pen we use to desensitize our new show kids to the concept of human touch. Some are admittedly very quick studies and will be walking on a slack lead and allowing themselves to be pawed over with less than an hour of work into them. Others, in my opinion often the smartest of the bunch, are admittedly a bit more challenging to connect with.  In any case, perhaps the sun will be kind enough to stay out a while today (though we will gladly settle for no snow or ice ) and we can can make a bit of headway?
