First day of school
After three months of having the boys around, the farm and particularly the house where my office is, is almost eerily quiet. I took Sam and Max to school this morning, having to leave 15 minutes earlier than normal in anticipation of the Irene-related detour we’ll be dealing with for many months ahead in the village of Quechee. As it was we were some 5 to 10 minutes early so hopefully we can figure out the departure time sweet spot in the coming days. Whether my body readjusts to the 5 AM exercise routine again as quickly is another question entirely.
While I was taking the kiddos to school this morning, Jen was up at the Arena helping to deliver what turned out to be a little beige King of the Ladies girl. Miracles never cease. That she was out of Oliana, one of three Peruvian Alpamayo daughters we bought years ago from Mountain Meadows Ranch in Alberta was just a bonus. In addition to her paternal sisters Lamaya and Nieva, we also at that time purchased Oliana’s maternal sister, Olvana. Though Olvana herself died of cancer a couple of years back, her daughters Celestial Nova and Adromeda remain here, while their full sibling (she and SuperNova had a thing going on, as they say), Boss-A-Nova, stands at stud at Seven Springs Alpaca Farm in VA. Needless to say it has been a while since we’ve had a female representative of that maternal line born here, so I was pretty excited when Jen told me about the cria. No pressure Ms. Thing…
