Ian, Sam, Ryen, Dave, and 60 alpacas in Nebraska…
Oh, the joys of a road trip! We’re sitting here in our hotel room in Grand Island, NE after 24 + hours of driving since Tuesday. We pulled in this morning for the Futurity after spending the night just a couple of hours away in Omaha. The 60 or so critters that were part of the combined CCNF/Tripping Gnome caravan all came off the trailers with their fleeces looking just a bit road worn (hmm, kind of like the humans) but otherwise in good shape. In any case all are in their pens under fans bedded on cardboard with far more room than they’ve experienced over the past 48 hours. I guess that’s why we arrived Thursday morning…
Old friend Dave Serino of Aspenwood Alpacas also arrived today by plane to join the show crew and minus a temporarily missing piece of luggage his journey was uneventful as well. Leaving aside the the reality that we are going to desperately need help with a show string that large, having not seen Dave for several months it’s just really fun to have his irreverent wisecracking presence here with us. Jen and Maxy get in tomorrow afternoon (our kids are on April break this week) and with Ursula and the rest of the Munro family arriving midday on Saturday we should be at full strength by the time the actual show gets under way on Sunday. For now though I really just want to go and drool over the frosty beer to be named later and then NOT drive the next morning for 10+ hours. It shouldn’t be too much to ask for!
