It’s a raining (fuzzy, four legged, 15-18 lb.) men

It’s also just literally raining at the moment as well, something which we actually need.  Yes, with the due females having conspired to go on a virtual maternity strike over the past couple of weeks we knew the logjam was bound to brake sooner or later. Of course what fun would it be for that to happen in an orderly controlled fashion when we’re all around.

“Psst….hey girls let’s wait until Jen and Ian are away at the Cape for a few days and then totally screw with Kim’s sense of calm and normality by all going at once!” They have dark hearts I say.

In less than 24 hours last week 5 different females decided that it was time to deliver their crias. All healthy and all relatively easy births (Kimmy had to fix one dystocia) though there is a finite number of clean towels up at the Arena at any given time and that day only one baby catcher. I suppose it did help that all of the females in question were wily old veterans of the maternity ward.  All things being equal, there was never really any concern about their mothering abilities. It was just a question of making sure everyone was squared away and doing all right when a bit short-handed. In the end Marigot had a white Elite Legend boy, Accoyolove had a ripping little beige Precocious boy, Infinity had a white EL girl (we’re a stud farm but we do occasionally make an exception), Ascension had a beige EL boy (shades of his older brother, Inferno), and both Eliza and Sugar drop feeling the need to conform had rather interesting EL boys of their own. So clearly Elite Legend seems to like throwing boys so far. Nice boys though so we will just go with the flow…as if we have any choice in the matter.

I had gone to bed last night intent on getting out there into the cria groups this morning with the snazzy new digital camera Jen just gave me for my birthday but no one really wants to see pics of wet crias on a grey rainy day. Perhaps Mother Nature will oblige us tomorrow? For now I’m off now to help my beloved do some afternoon ultra sounding at the two upper barns. Hope everyone is having a good day!
