Little Big Man is *back* in the house!
Elixir came home yesterday, delivered to CCNF — and in the air-conditioned comfort of Penny’s car no less — by our friends and his co owners at A Paca Fun Farm in Maryland! I’m looking forward to having him here and trying to get him working in the next few days. There is the small matter of herd health and the toe nail trimming of 200+ alpacas to deal with first though.
We did end up having to separate Elixir out with some of the mellower males at the Stud Barn after his great uncle Sovereign decided to go all cell block C on him. No one abuses my rookie Herdsires! That’s my job. In point of fact, our young Champion will be treated with kid gloves over the next few weeks as we gradually groom him and allow him to master his new stock and trade. If I have my way, he won’t even suffer the woes of minor rejection over the first month or so until we’re confident that he can take it. For the time being, he’ll enjoy all the benefits of being a front line Herdsire here with virtually none of the downsides. Hopefully it gets to his head!
For those of you who might just be tuning in, CCNF Elixir (the son of Snowmass Elite Legend and our Champion Archangel daughter, CCNF Ascension) is arguably the best alpaca this farm has ever produced and he, along with his brothers Hyperion, Defiance, and Ellisar, has been tasked with replacing his world famous sire here in our breeding program. Of course, the crown prince wont technically be 2 years old until the 9th of August, so no pressure there at all kid!
