Speaking of the Reality line…
This is starting to sound like a broken record. Not since the ascension of the powerful birth class of 2003 (it produced Archangel and Golden Sovereign amongst others) have we had a crop of such exciting young homegrown Herdsires all come online in one year here at CCNF. Though we have obviously not been shy in recent years about going out and bringing new blood into our breeding program via the purchase of new males, it is obviously preferable to create our Herdsires from within whenever possible. For those of us still willing to proudly grin and bear it and wear our Red Sox hats in this most horrid of baseball seasons, think Dustin Pedroia vs. Carl Crawford/John Lackey. Nothing wrong with playing intelligently in the free agent market but it’s always best for any number of reasons if the talent is developed on the, um, farm.
The latest of these young males to achieve his first confirmed pregnancy here is CCNF Wayfarer, the son of our rock star male, Royal Ring of Fire and one of our best Legacy Gold daughters, Nutmeg. Nutmeg was the first cria born to Reality whom we brought into the fold way back in in 2001 as a juvenile and whose latest cria’s arrival I wrote about last week here on the blog. While I will grant that Wayfarer is technically a year older than most of his rookie compatriots (Tenacious, Invictus, Concerto, Vertigo) at the Stud Barn, we are excited enough by what we have seen in his development over the past year that several females in our herd that had been originally tipped to breed with his sire are instead being rerouted to the rookie son. Wayfarer, who because of his relation to much of our colored herd is also currently listed for sale, is available for outside stud service at an introductory rate of $2,000 ($1,500 for drive-bys) and represents an amalgam of some of our farm’s most potent colored genetics.
