The post-Thanksgiving Hangover.
No, I’m not talking about that kind of hangover. Not that the past four days with my older sibling did not present ample opportunities to create that sort of problem but I like to think that, if nothing else, I’ve at least learned how to pace myself over the years where the consumption of certain substances is concerned. Sort of. What I mean is the post-holiday gloomies that one feels after you’ve just had a wonderful time with a bunch of people you love and then they do that awful real world adult life thing of leaving and going back to there own homes. Hate that. After having the house filled with 10 people since late Thursday morning it now feels shockingly quiet. This too shall pass though…
This morning I got to take my nieces to the Arena to reacquaint them with one particular maternal line, the members of which bear their names (Magadalena/Johanna/Lilah/Alexandra, we call it the niecy line) as well as one little girl, Tulip, that was born when Evie was here with us last July hanging out for a week. Our kids and their two cousins have an almost storybook-like city mouse/country mouse experience whenever they get together as my sister’s wee clan calls the West Village of NYC home. What this means is that the contrasts and the resulting experiences whenever one side of the family visits the other are really quite magical. We are all happy that we live where we do, yet equally thrilled by the opportunity to visit the other side so to speak. In any case we’ll be seeing them all again shortly just prior to Christmas for Lilah’s debut in ABT’s production of the Nutcracker! Thinking about her practice schedule between now and then makes our show season/soccer parent life look like a stroll in the park, BTW. I must also say though that having just ended the most active part of our year earlier this month it is pretty wonderful watching other people plan events for the coming months where our sole role will involve just showing up.
I hope that everyone out there had a great Thanksgiving regardless of whether you stayed home or travelled. Be well…
I have marked the site. Useful read.
