You Give Us Futurity Sale Lemons…
And we will do our level-best to make a kick-ass Futurity Sale Lemonade! Or something like that. Circumstances being what they are, with all alpaca events understandably cancelled for the foreseeable future due to the coronavirus outbreak, Celebrity Sales gave their consignors the option of participating in an online auction, to be held on the same date as the originally scheduled in-person sale, 4/18. At last look, that offer was taken up by every single consigning farm! While the cynic in me wont discount the possibility that we all may be overly optimistic in going forward, with very little downside for us all as consignors (except perhaps wounded prides…and those heal), the show of unity is genuinely heartening nonetheless. Much of the marketing and the sale catalogs themselves had in fact already been produced anyway, so we press on.
No matter what happens, this is inevitably going to be a little different for one simple reason: for with all due respect to those whom have regularly participated in or watched online alpaca sales via the various sites that have offered such things over the years, the caliber of the consignments to this online auction will be of a quality that heretofore has never been seen in this medium. Will we the consignors be able to successfully convey the quality of our animals to the would-be bidders? These are honestly fairly uncharted waters, so I guess that remains to be seen but we sure are going to try.
For our part, we had decided already months ago (early January as I recall, a decidedly more innocent time) that we would consign 2 females to the sale in Kansas City: a yearling (CCNF Requiem en Rose, Lot #9) and a juvenile (CCNF Isoletta, Lot #35). You can read the slightly extended version of their auction descriptions by clicking on their names above. We will also in the coming days and weeks try to harness the full capabilities of both this blog site as well as our farm’s social media feeds (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) to create some videos of both females. It’s far from perfect but hey…it’s what we’ve got! Stay tuned please and we’ll be back with more shortly…
